Job Description:
The University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks an Associate/Full Professor at the intersection of Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The successful applicant will also be a member of the UAlbany AI Institute and will be hired into the Cybersecurity Department in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC). There are opportunities for collaboration across departments, particularly through our interdisciplinary Information Science doctoral program. Partner departments include Computer Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Digital Forensics, Information Systems & Business Analytics. Research labs within the Cybersecurity Department include the Hack IoT Lab and Cyber Range. CEHC has a goal of creating an interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators capable of preparing our students to successfully explore and interpret the rich array of disciplines and perspectives contained within cybersecurity and allied disciplines.

UAlbany is a nationally recognized leader in security and preparedness training, research, and education and has longstanding partnerships with key security agencies across the State and the nation. The University has received tens of millions of dollars in federal, state, and private sector support to its schools, colleges, and research centers based on this expertise. The recent New York State funding of UAlbany's $75 million Artificial Intelligence Institute offers additional multi-disciplinary research and educational opportunities. Partnerships with government agencies, private industry, and not-for-profit organizations provide opportunities to contribute to highly applied research, and access to a wealth of resources in these organizations and agencies. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Build and sustain synergistic research agenda within Cybersecurity and AI that directly strengthens the vision of the Cybersecurity Department, CEHC, and the larger UAlbany to impact the real world in various contexts, such as business, healthcare, energy & sustainability, critical infrastructure, and government.
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in live and on-line environment that foster transformation towards a more secure and just cyber-society.
  • Advise and mentor diverse undergraduate and graduate students with strong commitment to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to administrative responsibilities within the Cybersecurity Department and CEHC.
  • Engage the UAlbany community, Cybersecurity professionals and academic societies, industry, and granting agencies.

    Requirements:
    Minimum Qualifications
    :
  • A PhD or other terminal degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid) requisite for appointment as tenured associate or full professor in cybersecurity, including areas such as cyber threat modeling and intelligence, information/network security and privacy, cybersecurity risk management and planning, and network compliance auditing.
  • Record of innovative, meaningful research and published scholarship on topics in the field of Cybersecurity requisite for appointment as tenured associate or full professor.
  • The department is open to researchers in a wide range of areas related to cybersecurity. Inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches are welcome, especially those that can employ a wide range of methods. We are particularly interested in researchers who can contribute to the Cybersecurity departments and CEHC's educational programs at all levels.
  • Applicants must address in their application the integration of artificial intelligence into their research program.
  • Applicants must have experience in applying for and obtaining funding for their research, requisite for an associate or full professor.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clear plan for developing a scholarly agenda in Cybersecurity and AI at UAlbany.
  • Nationally or internationally recognized scholar and researcher in Cybersecurity and AI, requisite for an associate or full professor.
  • Expertise, experience, and active research in Cyber Defense and/or Cyber Operations, including applications in malware analysis, reverse engineering, SCADA security, offensive methods, and threat modeling.
  • Familiarity with the principles and operation of a variety of sub-areas of cybersecurity and related disciplines, requisite for associate professor or full professor, in which cybersecurity is important as providing needed protections, collaboration, datasources, areas of critical economic or societal importance, providing underlying ethical underpinnings, etc.
  • The ability to teach and develop classes in existing and emerging subfields of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related fields.
