Summary of Responsibilities


  • Virtualization Designs, develops, and maintains the current VMWare VCF virtual environment. Understand user and process requirements and ensure those requirements can be achieved through high quality deliverables. Monitor technological advancements to ensure that solutions are continuously improved, supported, and aligned with industry and company standards as well as emerging business requirements. Performs upgrades and troubleshooting for virtual environments. Understand the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the environment, and evaluate the impact of changes or additions. Analyze systems and perform usability testing to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, and meet security requirements. Participates in evaluating and recommends new enterprise software products. Ensures optimal performance and high availability of enterprise applications.
  • Automation Develops, implements, and maintains automated systems to streamline infrastructure management processes. This role involves creating and implementing scripts or tools to automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring tasks, ensuring consistent and reliable infrastructure performance. The engineer collaborates closely with development, operations, and security teams to integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines and enhance overall system efficiency. They monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize automation workflows to minimize downtime and enhance scalability. Staying up to date with the latest tools and technologies in infrastructure automation is key to driving continuous improvements and aligning with organizational goals.
  • Security Work closely with IT security to monitor the virtualization and infrastructure automation environments. Leverage expertise to assist with root cause investigations and provide recommendations for preventative measures, security policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard information systems. Proactively address gaps with existing support processes, documentation, etc. and prioritize accordingly. Ensure efficient functioning of process functions in accordance with University security policies and an best practices.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 4 years of relevant experience OR any combination of education and experience totaling 8 years.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or technology-related field, plus 4 years of experience; OR any combination of education and experience totaling 8 years.

Licenses or Certifications
Current VMware VCP or VCAP

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of virtual machine environments (Vmware/Broadcom, Proxmox, etc)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Powershell, BASH, other scripting tools)
  • Knowledge of Networking, TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancing, Firewalling
  • Knowledge of Relational Databases (MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres)
  • Knowledge of Directory Services (Active Directory, LDAP, EntraAD)
  • Knowledge of common Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, MacOS)
  • Knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (SSL, Certificates)
  • Knowledge of clustering, redundant systems, and high availability
  • Knowledge of security, backups, and disaster recovery
  • Knowledge of Server hardware architecture and remote systems management (Dell and Dell iDRAC administration)
Skills
  • Decision making, problem solving, exercising effective interpersonal communication, prioritization, organization, researching, and ingenuity.
