Systems Engineer II

Job Summary
Systems Engineer II serves as a technical professional responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise endpoint management and systems infrastructure. This position functions as a subject matter expert in modern device provisioning, automation, enterprise software deployment, and Microsoft 365 endpoint workloads.

Systems Engineer II supports FGCU's modernization strategy by helping transition device management from traditional imaging (SCCM) to modern cloud-based provisioning through Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and related Microsoft 365 tools.

Job Description

Typical duties include but not limited to:
  • Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level endpoint and systems infrastructure services.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert for Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Endpoint Security, and Windows Update for Business.
  • Supports Microsoft 365 workloads, including device configuration, compliance policies, and conditional access.
  • Enhances automation using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Intune configuration scripts, or API integrations.
  • Performs troubleshooting, monitors system performance, and ensures endpoint security compliance.
  • Develops and maintains system documentation, diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Participates in technology evaluations, testing, and implementation of new endpoint solutions.
  • Supports the transition from imaging to provisioning and the lifecycle management of Windows and macOS devices.
  • Assists System Engineer team members with technical issues.
  • Participates in business continuity and disaster recovery planning as it relates to endpoint infrastructure.
  • Supports cross-training initiatives and staff development efforts within the Endpoint Deployment Team.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • This position requires six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.


    Preferred Education:
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
    • Experience using enterprise endpoint management systems such as Intune, SCCM, JAMF, or similar MDM/UEM tools to deploy software, apply configuration and security policies, manage updates, and maintain device compliance.
    • Experience with PowerShell or similar scripting tools to assist with automation, troubleshooting, and configuration management
    • Experience with server system products involving a variety of software and hardware implementations.
    • Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator
    • JAMF Certified Admin (JCA)
    • CompTIA Security+
    • ITIL Foundation
    • VMware Certified Professional


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g. Systems, Protocols, Directory Services).
    • Knowledge and proficiency with relevant business systems, operating systems, and servers.
    • Knowledge of and ability to administer cloud-based applications (Saas).
    • Skill in managing servers and storage hardware.
    • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
    • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
    • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
    • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
    • Ability to provide professional customer service.
    • Ability to present technical strategies to leadership; produce clear diagrams/runbooks; mentor/train staff.
    • Diagnose complex issues; design and implement solutions; set standards; plan long term improvements.
    • Scope/plan/manage complex projects, budgets, timelines, risks; deliver status to stakeholders; run post implementation reviews; ensure business continuity.
    • Handle escalated issues; design user centered solutions for faculty, staff, and students; empathetic stakeholder management.
    • Lead cross team initiatives; influence direction; drive change management and culture of accountability/continuous improvement.
