Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University is expanding its faculty and invites applications for a position in the core Honors faculty. Designated as Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Principal Lecturers, Barrett faculty are Honors Faculty Fellows who enjoy competitive salaries and generous benefits. The main responsibility of Barrett faculty members involves teaching a rigorous two-semester interdisciplinary seminar, The Human Event, in which students examine primary materials reflecting diverse intellectual traditions from earliest writings to the present. The course is designed to give special attention to critical thinking and argumentative writing skills. In addition, faculty mentor honors students through independent study, individual research and theses, and lead students in study abroad programming and domestic travel.

Barrett attracts many of the top students in the country and provides them with an enriching academic experience that challenges them and enables them to become better citizens of the world. Typical incoming students at Barrett are in the top five percent of their high school classes. Our student body is highly diverse, comprising 48% students of color; and 21% first-generation. Although Barrett operates at four ASU campuses throughout the greater Phoenix area, this position is located primarily at the Polytechnic campus.

We seek to fill a full-time, multi-year faculty position whose primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year Human Event seminar. We are interested in candidates with a background in Biological Sciences and/or Public Understanding of Science and/or Science Communication. Barrett values cultural and intellectual diversity, and we are especially interested in applicants who engage in inclusive pedagogy and whose teaching and scholarly activities address and reflect the diversity of our academic community. A minimum of five (5) years post-secondary teaching experience is required for the rank of Senior Lecturer. Faculty with experience in administrative leadership are especially encouraged to apply. The position begins August 2022; the nine-month salary will be based on education and experience.

Required Qualifications:
A PhD, in hand by June 2022
Demonstrated record of teaching excellence, with a minimum of five years teaching experience Demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy and an ability to engage and mentor a diverse student body
Commitment to Honors education
Interest in developing study abroad or domestic travel programming

Desired Qualifications:
Training in one of preferred fields listed above (Biological Sciences and/or Public Understanding of Science and/or Science Communication)
Experience in teaching argumentative writing
Experience leading seminar-based discussion courses
Experience mentoring students in undergraduate research
Experience in undergraduate curriculum development
Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical innovation
Experience in administrative leadership
Experience in developing collaborative partnerships in the university and community
