The Opportunity
The College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites nominations and applications for a full-time, 12-month, position of tenured professor and chair of the Department of Biology with an anticipated start date in summer or fall 2024.
The Department of Biology is comprised of a balanced blend of research and teaching faculty who are committed to maintaining a diverse undergraduate curriculum, creating a dynamic graduate program, and engaging in contemporary research. The department offers a baccalaureate degree in Biology with six tracks, as well as a M.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Integrative and Conservation Biology. The department also offers a minor and two certificates. The department has 33 full-time faculty, about 3,000 undergraduate majors and minors, and 46 graduate students. The department oversees several research and field facilities and biological collections. Biology faculty also participate in multiple faculty clusters. The College of Sciences (COS) houses most of the university's natural, computational, and social sciences in eight departments, two schools, and several centers. Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required. In addition, the successful applicant must have a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured professor at UCF by time of hire. Applicants must also demonstrate a record of leadership in a university setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in handling faculty matters, supervising staff, and strong communication skills.
