Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Program Manager, Entrepreneurial Development.

The Program Manager, Entrepreneurial Development, is responsible for creating and supporting new and existing programs that contribute to the development of faculty, student and community entrepreneurs and small business success through federally funded programs, business incubation and acceleration, and technology commercialization. The position designs and executes entrepreneurial programming and manages the development of a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

This position will support entrepreneurial development programs associated with both University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The incumbent will develop strategies for applying for and managing grants and programs, communicate and share resources with program stakeholders, coordinate educational events, and establish new programs to further both universities' objective of creating a vibrant innovation ecosystem in Nevada.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Entrepreneurial Program Management
  • Strategizes, researches, develops and manages grant funded entrepreneurship programs and initiatives including SBIR/STTR, I-Corps, ASCEND, , and other future programs;
  • Research, prepare and submit grant proposals for federally funded entrepreneurship programs to ensure long-term sustainability of these programs;
  • Establishes and performs data gathering, surveys and analyses to report on demographics, outcomes, metrics, and other information critical to enhancing success of the programs;
  • Creates and manages program budget and resources; coordinates program resources, services, partnerships, and deliverables to align with program objectives;
  • Coordinates program outreach efforts via newsletters, university and partner communications, and other announcement methods;
  • Coordinates program related events, resources and technical information distribution;
  • Develops, organizes and delivers targeted educational programs to enable community entrepreneurs and university faculty and students to utilize program services.
  • Establishes and facilitates relationships with entrepreneurial support organizations, community partners, stakeholders, local industry and university faculty, staff and students to promote effective collaboration with ecosystem partners.
  • Hires, trains, performs evaluations and disciplines when needed, interns and student workers;
  • Collaborates with University Marketing and Communications to ensure that the content of the website is updated timely to reflect the events and activities of the programs.


Accelerator Program
  • Designs and co-directs an entrepreneur academy for faculty and/or students interested in starting a company licensing university technology.
  • Organizes all aspects of the academy including community outreach, marketing, cohort selection, and operational aspects of the program;
  • Recruits mentors, speakers, subject matter experts, and volunteers for the program;
  • Secures commitments of participation or donations from individuals and/or corporate sponsors;
  • Monitors budgets, expense reports and other financial data for the accelerator program


Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Liaison
  • Serves as the liaison with entrepreneurial support organizations, community partners, stakeholders, local industry and university faculty, staff and students to promote effective collaboration with ecosystem partners.
  • Develops, organizes and delivers targeted educational programs to enable community entrepreneurs and University faculty and students to utilize program services.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience; OR a Master's degree and one (1) year of related work experience.

Related Experience: Commercial Operations Management, Non-Profit Management and/or Start-Up experience or related.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
