Test Engineering Manager

The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Test Engineering Manager.

The Test Engineering Manager will supervise a team of Test Engineers and will manage the resources for projects to accomplish the preparation and operation of high-power test articles, facilities, and related instrumentation. The successful candidate must be familiar with the applied research and testing environment. The Test Engineering Manager will lead the team of Test Engineers to effectively construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, and operate a wide range of instrumentation, software, and mechanical systems to safely acquire high fidelity test data. The Test Engineering Manager will be in direct contact with a variety of sponsors, internal and external engineers, program managers, and scientists. The Testing manager will be a part of the proposal preparation teams. The Testing Manager will plan test resources for all NDTL projects to ensure smooth and efficient project execution. The Test Engineering Manager will report to the Assistant Director, Engineering Operations.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:
  • Supervising, training, and mentoring the Test Engineers
  • Effort and resource coordination of the following activities:
  • Data acquisition and data quality verification
  • Design, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, software, and hardware in a test environment
  • Test planning and cost estimation
  • Facility/supply/resource management
  • Test process development and documentation
  • Test status reporting



The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task and interact successfully with individuals with varying levels of experience while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. The candidate must be able to organize and prioritize work independently and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment where creativity and flexibility is highly regarded. The ability to teach oneself and others new skills as required is also essential.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related degree

Familiarity with testing environment, with broad engineering background; demonstrated people and resource management and process development management

Minimum 5 years of experience

This position requires candidates to be a US Citizen or hold a Green Card.

Preferred Qualifications:
Aerospace industry experience preferred.
