Two Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Statistics and Data Science

Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions in statistics and data science, to begin in August 2026. We are open to hiring one position at the Assistant Professor level and the other at either the advanced Assistant or untenured Associate Professor level. Our new colleagues will help shape and grow our recently established major in statistics and data science and will teach courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate levels. For one of these positions, we seek a statistician or data scientist to teach the statistics courses required for our major and to offer existing electives or develop new ones in their area of expertise. For the second position, the ideal candidate would have a background in computer science and an interest in developing courses to expand our program's curriculum. Possible teaching areas include introductory programming in Python, data structures and algorithms, database systems and data management, cloud computing for data science, advanced data visualization, and machine learning. As a liberal arts college, we value interdisciplinary engagement and welcome candidates eager to collaborate with faculty in other academic departments in both teaching and research. Such collaboration could include co-teaching in the Montserrat seminar program for first-year students, offering courses that integrate data science with other disciplines at the College, or pursuing joint research projects with faculty in those fields.

This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a research leave prior to tenure review of either a full year at 80% salary or a semester at full salary, and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for tenured faculty. To enable a smooth transition to Holy Cross, new full-time tenure-track faculty receive start-up funding to support their research and professional development and have a one-course reduction in their first year of teaching (i.e., 2-2). These positions offer full benefits and a starting salary in the range of $122,250 to $124,650 at the level of Assistant Professor and up to $130,000 at the level of untenured Associate Professor. Faculty at the College cultivate a richly diverse academic community, pursue innovative teaching, and create high-impact scholarship. To learn more about faculty life at the College and in the Worcester area, candidates are encouraged to see the Resources for Prospective Faculty on our Faculty Openings page.

Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and undergraduate teaching as well as a commitment to inclusive pedagogies. A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, data science, or a closely related field is required by the beginning of the appointment.

Please submit

  • a cover letter addressing the position requirements listed above as well as the ways you might contribute to and further the College's mission as a Jesuit, undergraduate liberal arts college and its core commitment to creating a community where every individual feels empowered to contribute their talents and perspectives.
