The Rochester Institute of Technology's School of Interactive Games and Media (IGM) invites applications for the position of School Director, to begin in July 2026. IGM is one of the academic units within the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT. IGM has grown to 29 faculty, over 800 students, and four degrees: BS and MS in Game Design and Development (with a BS/MS dual degree option), a BS in New Media Interactive Development, and participation in the college-wide PhD program.
RIT has been a leader in the field of game design and development and in new media interactive development, e.g., with RIT ranked 3rd in the 2026 US News national rankings for its game design program. With its portfolio of degrees, IGM is at the forefront of research and education on how games and new media intersect and inform fields of AI, VR/AR/XR, disaster resilience, cybersecurity, digital twins, simulation, visualization, society & culture, and more. The IGM Director will guide the direction of the discipline and prepare the next generation of computing professionals for this future.

We are seeking a proven leader with experience in game and media development; a track record of peer-reviewed, disseminated, and funded research, as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary work and demonstrated ability to manage an academic unit. A candidate must demonstrate their accomplishment in the field and must be known and respected by their peers in order to exercise leadership of an award winning, cutting-edge, collegial, and motivated professional community working with a global footprint. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education, as well as the ability to provide leadership and support for faculty research, scholarship, and curriculum development.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and rank and is based on a ten-month salary which includes an administrative stipend. Administrators are encouraged to supplement their work with additional summer assignments from externally funded grants, contracts, or special projects.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The School of Interactive Games and Media (IGM; https://www.rit.edu/computing/school-interactive-games-and-media) has 29 full-time faculty and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. IGM offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in Game Design and Development as well as New Media Interactive Development. It also offers a Master of Science in Game Design and Development, and an accelerated BS/MS in Game Design and Development. IGM serves over 800 undergraduate students and about 100 graduate students. IGM currently ranks in the top 10 in the Princeton Review and the Animation Career Review for Game Design and Development programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. IGM works closely with RIT's MAGIC (Media, Arts, Games, Interaction & Creativity) Center, a university-wide collaboration for research and publishing in games and digital media. The MAGIC Center comprises a university research and development center and an independent game publishing studio.

Required Minimum Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree in computing, game development, game design, game production, computer science, information science, new media development, or related discipline.
- Experience commensurate with that of a tenured associate or full professor with an exemplary record of achievement in research, teaching, and service in academia or equivalent experience in an industry setting.
- Demonstrated research excellence in game development, new media, computing and information sciences, or related areas with a track record of publications and external funding.
- Demonstrated experience to contribute to the growth and direction of the academic field as well as the ability to interact with the national and international constituencies that define the discipline.
- Strong commitment both to undergraduate and graduate education with a spirit of student centeredness, and a dedication to leading faculty focused on high-quality instruction and student success.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to provide leadership for an academic unit, including strategic thinking, vision, communication, management, and administrative skills.
- Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College's continuing commitment to student engagement, belonging, and success.
