Job Summary

The Upward Bound Project is a federally funded program to encourage post-secondary preparation of high school students who are from low-income families and are first-generation college-bound students (the first in their family to go to college). The summer academy for 2026 consists of an intensive, six-week in-person academic program during which the students receive high school enrichment instruction in English, financial literacy, business, foreign language, mathematics, and social science. Supervised recreation, guidance, and peer advising, and career exploration are also provided. Teachers will assist with the coordination, design, and production of classes for Upward Bound Academy in classrooms on campus.

Responsibilities
Create & implement curriculum & syllabus to embody the summer program theme.
Assists in developing and conducting training sessions on subjects related to the area of assignment.
Assists in the coordination, design, and production of educational activities.
Assists in the development of new ideas regarding educational programs.
Assists in the development of workshops, brochures, and educational materials.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required

Minimum Qualifications
Three years experience as a classroom assistant in a related academic area, or equivalency; knowledge and understanding of a variety of teaching methods to adjust activities/training session to include participants of different ages; a thorough knowledge of related academic subjects to participate in developing classroom activities/programs; and demonstrated knowledge of teaching methods and communication skills to conduct educational activities and/or training sessions clearly and concisely required.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Curriculum may focus on geography, global studies, world cultures, civic engagement, current events, sociology, diplomacy, psychology, and international relations.

Preferences
Persons who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population are encouraged to apply. Teachers who understand the value of experiential learning are desired.

Work Schedule Summary: Teachers may be on-campus from June 16th to July 31st from about 9 am - 12 pm, Monday through Friday. Teachers will be compensated for curriculum preparation prior to the June 16th start date.
