About the Position:
The Division of Information Technology strives to be a strategic, innovative and best-in-class IT organization that provides a leading-edge technology environment for students, faculty and staff to advance the University's mission, vision and goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Unit/Department Name team as the Information Technology Consultant - Expert. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Oversees high-performance computing clusters supporting computational science and mathematics research. Facilitates the high performance computing clusters (HPCCs) for the College of Natural Science and Mathematics while working alongside the Division of Information Technology. Oversees and supports the Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) System: web server, database server, management node(s), and multiple virtualization hosts. Working with the team, the Information Technology Consultant-Expert builds and supports cloud infrastructure for the campus. Creates documentation and provides technical support to faculty, staff, and management on the computing clusters. Collaborates and works closely with faculty, staff and student researchers. Oversees user management such as: user and group accounts, permissions. Creates new accounts for faculty and students. Provides daily HPCC system and customer support such as daily job monitoring, daily interactive with user base to assist researching tasks need, and user resource management such as disk quota management script engineering in support of faculty and student HPCC utilization tasks. Troubleshoots, analyzes, diagnoses and isolates system failures. Develops, communicates and implement solutions with senior engineer in both system and hardware level change and/or repair request. Foresees upcoming issues and will solve complex problems. Trains and mentors junior IT team members. Documents solutions and educates the general user base on corrective actions made. Supports the installation, upgrading, and use of a diverse set of scientific applications on an open-source for parallel computing within the Linux environment. Develops an understanding of the hardware and architecture for open-source and parallel computing. Contributes to development of competitive proposals by members of the Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics to advance high-performance computing on campus and in the region. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Telecommunications, Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field and five years of relevant full-time experience. Twelve years of relevant full-time experience or an associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and seven years of relevant full-time experience may be substituted for the previously listed education and experience requirement.

Advanced knowledge of the work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of the advanced principles and theories. Ability to integrate and apply work related knowledge to achieve innovative solutions, anticipate the impact of problems and solutions on other systems, investigate and research new systems and technologies, and develop complex information technology systems and solutions. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective. Ability to explore, conceive, and implement solutions and ideas in new ways. Ability to predict and anticipate problems and create proactive solutions. Demonstrated communication expertise using persuasion and negotiation. Ability to lead technical team efforts and assess skills within a team and work to build on individual strengths to maximize team results. Ability to teach and transfer knowledge and skills to others.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years of experience working in system administration. Experience working in a university environment. Experience with Scientific Unix or Linux . Experience with mathematical or statistical programming environments. Experience with scripting languages. Experience with IJatch scheduling, RAID storage, and file systems. Familiarity with SSH, and other database management systems. Knowledge and skills to apply security patches and software updates Possession of networking skills. Ability to integrate interfaces with systems. Familiarity with open source software.
