Assistant Professor of Information Sciences and Technology

Penn State Beaver invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Information Sciences and Technology (or a rank commensurate with qualifications.), tenure track, 36 weeks, to begin August 2021, or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: Teach courses each semester using traditional, hybrid, video conferencing, and online delivery methods. Teaching assignments may include lower and upper level courses in:
  • Software engineering (design & architecture, distributed computing, SDLC, UML etc.)
  • Software development (programming concepts and coding in languages like Java, Python, R etc.)
  • Web and mobile application design and development
  • Database concepts, modelling, design and technologies such RDBMS, MYSQL, NoSQL etc.
  • Enterprise applications and integrations (ERP, SCM, CRM etc.)
  • Information and cyber security concepts, technologies and tools
  • Usability engineering and human-centered design
  • Emerging technologies (like artificial intelligence, data science, blockchain etc.)
  • Discreet mathematics


Publish in high quality refereed journals and present at national/international conferences. Participate in professional development and in course, curriculum, and program development including leading assessment. Advise students and participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Qualifications: Ph.D. (ABD considered) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Sciences, Information Technologies, or related field. Background and expertise in software design and development strongly preferred.

Evidence of potential in research and publication; a commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment; and an interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching are all expected.

Prior college-level and online teaching experience required. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Ability to support diverse student body and campus community, including appreciation and respect of differences in race and ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation, religious affiliation, age and life experience, nationality and language, and in physical capabilities. Students and faculty at Penn State Beaver have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting and have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
