Summary of Duties:

The Director of the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB) will be an individual with outstanding credentials who can articulate a clear vision for leading and developing the department while promoting a broadly shared sense of collegiality, mutual respect, and support within the department, college, and university. The successful candidate is expected to have developed and sustained a productive, nationally, and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program complementary to existing department and college strengths. In addition, the new director will have a record of excellence in graduate education. The Director's portfolio will include fiscal management of SMB, participation in and promotion of mentoring and professional development for faculty members in research, teaching, and service, fostering of evidence-based teaching methods, curricular development, and scholarship in teaching. SMB has 18 tenure/tenure track and 6 career-track faculty members and a growing graduate program. There are opportunities for substantial departmental faculty growth over the next 5 years.

Required Qualifications:
  • Applicants must hold an earned doctorate [PhD/MD or equivalent] in the field of biomedical sciences or a related field.
  • Applicants must be eligible for academic appointment at the level of Full Professor. Eligibility includes at least five (5) years of service in a research and leadership position with a demonstrated record of achievement in the candidate's field of study, as well as a record of exceptional service and leadership.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated abilities in conducting hypothesis-based research and publishing high quality peer-reviewed manuscripts and evidence of the ability to attract extramural funding. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to inclusive excellence through leadership contributions in research, teaching, or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Additionally, experience in graduate education and success in fiscal and personnel management in an academic environment are preferred qualifications.

Annual Salary: $220,000 - $250,000

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, assigned rank and abilities related to the position. While serving as Director of the School of Molecular Biosciences, this position will be eligible for a temporary administrative stipend for the duration of the Director appointment.
