Full Professor (Ladder Rank/In-Residence) Psychiatry

The Altman Clinical & Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/research/actri/) at UC San Diego, in collaboration with the department of Psychiatry (https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/psychiatry) in the School of Medicine is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is seeking a candidate for a 0.5 FTE tenured faculty position at the Professor rank.

The ACTRI was established in 2010 to provides infrastructure and support for basic, translational, and clinical research throughout UC San Diego and the San Diego region; expedite the translation of discoveries into therapies; and facilitate the training and education of the next generation of researchers.

The ACTRI is recruiting a senior faculty member with expertise in behavioral sciences to direct its Education, Training and Career Development (ETCD) Program. ETCD oversees multiple clinical research education programs:
  1. KL2, an institutional K award that supports junior faculty
  2. TL1, institutional T awards that funds pre-doctoral medical and pharmacy students for three-month or one-year experiences, and postdoctoral researchers of various backgrounds for two-year mentored training in advanced clinical and translational research.
  3. Clinical Research Enhancement and Supplemental Training (CREST), a modular curriculum for a broad range of learners seeking instruction on clinical and translational research.
  4. Mentor training/certification, which is required for KL2 mentors
  5. Grant writing training
  6. The SUSTAIN program, which provides protected time and training for individuals who have written competitive K awards that were not yet funded

The program also manages seminars and other educational programs to enhance diversity of trainees. The Director will be responsible for supervising the programs, compiling information information for annual reporting to the NIH, and will be required to assist with content for competing renewal applications. The incumbent will interact with ETCD Directors at other institutions to consider opportunities for collaboration. This position reports to the CTRI Director. Candidates with experience with or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD. Candidates with an MD must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

The successful applicant candidate must have a background as a trained psychiatrist or psychologist in translational and clinical research, experience leading and developing advanced degree/certificate educational programs in translational science, experience directing institutional K awards programs in a school of medicine, and active extramural funding.

Appointment will be at the Full Professor rank. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
