Washington State University Tri-Cities invites applications for Director, Bioproducts Sciences & Engineering Laboratory (BSEL) and WSU Co-Director, WSU-PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) Bioproducts Institute. The joint WSU-PNNL Bioproducts Institute is the centerpiece for our efforts to become a world leader in education, research and innovation for the production of high-value engineered materials, fuels for heavy duty transport, and chemicals all sourced from underutilized waste materials containing carbon. The successful applicant will be able to leverage existing strengths in biomass and carbon processing, (bio) refining, renewable products, and supply chain analyses to address major societal, environmental and economic challenges.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a discipline relevant to the emerging bioeconomy; Demonstrated research excellence; Ability to articulate the opportunities and challenges for the emerging bioeconomy; Demonstrated mentorship excellence for graduate and/or undergraduate researchers; Demonstrated leadership and management excellence with large collaborative groups and people with diverse backgrounds and expertise; Demonstrated success in developing industrial partnerships to enable market-based outcomes; and a record of acquiring significant competitive research funding.

Experience with U.S. national laboratory collaborations and the ability to excel in a culturally diverse environment; and experience working with the program managers of U.S. funding agencies (Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, etc.) or foundations is preferred.
