Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Biology

Penn State New Kensington invites applications for a faculty position in biology to begin August 2022. This is a full-time, non-tenure-line appointment at the rank of either Lecturer (for those who hold a master's degree) or Assistant Teaching Professor (for those who hold a doctorate degree). The initial appointment will be for three years and may be renewed dependent upon programmatic needs and adequate performance.


Responsibilities: Teach the lecture and laboratory components of 1st- and 2nd-year biology courses (including Basic Concepts/Biodiversity, Genetics, Cell and Molecular, and either Organismal or Population Biology/Ecology) as well as additional general education courses aligned with faculty expertise. Participate in course, curriculum, and program development. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline.

A Master's degree or Ph.D in biology or closely related field is required. Prior college-level teaching experience is required. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 10 baccalaureate degrees and 5 associate degrees.
