Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications: (As evidenced by an attached resume)
Bachelor of Science degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities. Experience in tissue culture and protein purification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field in-hand by December 2022. Experience in molecular cloning. Experience in lab management, including ordering supplies and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Support specialist position will support the research program of Dr. Stuti Sharma in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The project involves purification of endogenous proteins from human cell-culture for mass spectrometry, enzymatic assays, and structure determination by cryo-electron microscopy. The successful incumbent will also help maintain the tissue culture facility, assist with ordering lab supplies and compliance with environmental health and safety regulations. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Duties:
- Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support to the PI and other lab members for advanced research activities.
- Assist Principal Investigator with ordering lab supplies and maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety procedures.
- Perform literature searches, staying current in the field by reading and discussing literature and experimental results with the PI.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings
- Maintain tissue culture facility including human cell lines.
- Other duties as assigned.
