The University of Alberta (UofA), Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor contingent tenure-track appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, focusing on Translational Vision Science. The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (OVS), in conjunction with the Department of Medical Genetics and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI), UofA, seeks an accomplished investigator to join our Faculty (at a rank commensurate with their scientific credentials). The successful applicant will be appointed by OVS, with an adjunct or cross-appointment in Medical Genetics and NMHI, and be part of an innovative program (Alberta Vision Net) that offers a highly collaborative environment for both fundamental and translational vision research and builds on inter-departmental strengths in neurobiology, developmental biology, vascular biology, and molecular genetics of vision.

We are seeking an outstanding scientist with a PhD who has a significant track record of accomplishment and a well-established research program in an area of translational vision science. The applicant is expected to have a competitive publication record of original peer-reviewed research, and to develop or have an established extramurally funded research program in vision research. Applicants must also provide evidence of their commitment to multi-disciplinary collaborative research and excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful applicant will receive a competitive recruitment package with startup funds and newly renovated laboratory space and support from a productive network of vision and other scientists. A contribution to teaching within OVS and Medical Genetics is expected. This position will involve at least 70% of protected time for research with the remainder spent on other academic activities, including teaching and administration.
